Quranic Words

With 500 words you recognise 81% of the Qur’an’s text.

They are the most frequent ones of all. Recognising them is not the same as understanding every verse, but it is the base everything else is built on. Here you learn them with cards, games and a little book to flip through, in English and free.

The text, word by word

Each little square is worth 0.25% of the words written in the Qur’an. A few words occur very many times, which is why the first ones weigh so much.

Cumulative percentages. Words are counted by lemma, the dictionary base form.

Where to start

The first ten are mostly small words: prepositions, pronouns, “to say”, “to be”. They look like little, but they are the ones you meet in every line.
